Flood Water Safety
As you know, Livingston County is currently evacuating homes along the rivers due to rising water levels. This flood event is going to be similar to the 2009 Ice Storm meaning we are dealing with an event we have not experienced in most of our life times and it could impact a large number of people.
Some people are likely to be tempted to play in the water. Please keep in mind the flood waters filling the ditches and other areas can be contaminated with sewage and therefore, by entering these waters you put yourself at risk from being contaminated. Basically, it's like swimming in a toilet!
While some people might think it's fun to play near or in the flood waters, remember - dangers lurk with every wave. The flood waters have strong currents which can pull you under water, possibly causing you to drown. Please keep your children and pets away from the flood water at all costs!
